DECEMBER 2007 GRANTS
PARK STREET SCHOOL – SOCIAL LEARNING PROGRAM
The Social Learning Program assists children identified as experiencing behavioral concerns, social difficulties, challenges in adapting to classroom routines, or in problem-solving. The Program supports these children in their development and on-going use of essential social skills that will benefit them in school and the community.
CANADIAN RED CROSS
The Canadian Red Cross responds to over 100 disasters in New Brunswick each year. This grant is for their Disaster Management Training program in Fredericton. They anticipate training 40 volunteers in Fredericton.
MEALS ON WHEELS FREDERICTON
This grant is for the Community Cooking for Seniors Program in Estey’s Bridge. The program will be held twice per month. One monthly event will be a cooking class tailored to the needs of seniors and the other will focus on preparing large recipes that are not likely to be prepared by seniors living alone.
MUSIC IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM – HARVEST JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL INC.
This program allows the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival to contribute to school music and band programs in District 18 with the goal being to foster and develop young musicians and build the musical capacity of our community.
DUCKS UNLIMITED CANADA
This grant is for Project Webfoot – an education program (in-class and a field trip) for Grade 4 students. Field trips are held in May and June. Approximately 100 students from four Grade 4 classes will take part in both the in-class and field trip components.
HEALTHY FAMILIES, HEALTHY COMMUNITIES ASSOCIATION
This application is for the fredkid Fair 2008. This is the second year for this event which connects families with children aged 0 – 10 years to each other and to resources in the Greater Fredericton Area. This event is free for all families to attend.
DEVON MIDDLE SCHOOL
The gymnasium of the Devon Middle School is used by the school as well as members of the community. Their current scoreboard no longer works properly and is in need of replacement. This grant will be used to assist in the purchase and installation of a new scoreboard for the gym.
CANADIAN FORESTRY ASSOCIATION OF NB
This application is for the Envirothon NB 2008. Envirothon New Brunswick is an environmental education program with a goal of increasing secondary school students’ knowledge of environmental issues. This grant is for promotion of this event in Fredericton schools.
NB ASSOCIATION FOR COMMUNITY LIVING
This grant is for the Circle of Friends Program. The purpose of the Circle of Friends is to break down the barriers of social isolation and assist students with an intellectual disability in building relationships and friendships with their peers.
AIDS NEW BRUNSWICK
This grant is for the Welcome In “WIN for Women” project which has the goal of increasing use of the Needle Exchange by women and therefore, decreasing the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C and also providing a safe means for needle disposal. This project will survey women who use intravenous drugs to determine how the Needle Exchange program could be improved and it will also upgrade the appearance of the Needle Exchange facility.
CSSFA (Connaught Street School & Family Association)
The Living Playground Outdoor Classroom is how the CSSFA plans to mark the 50th anniversary of Fredericton’s only remaining downtown elementary school. The living playground will be a way for the children and families in the community to learn how to protect and preserve our environment and how we can become self-sustainable.
