Grant Recipients - December 2008

DECEMBER 2008

PORTAGE ATLANTIC FOUNDATION
Portage offers a bilingual, residential drug and alcohol treatment centre at Cassidy Lake for youth aged 14 – 21. Portage aims to return serious substance abusers to mainstream society as drug-free, crime-free and productive citizens through comprehensive, responsive and cost-effective interventions based on the therapeutic community approach. This grant is for Aftercare, Extra-Curricular Activities and Staff Development.

FREDERICTON HOMELESS SHELTERS
The Fredericton Homeless Shelters (Men’s Shelter and Grace House for Women) operate 23 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to provide clients with housing, showers, laundry facilities, an incoming telephone number and an address (an address is required to apply for social assistance). This grant is for the upkeep of Grace House for Women for one year.

BLISS CARMAN PLAYGROUND PROJECT
In September 2009 Albert Street Middle School will move to its new location, Bliss Carman Middle School on Kimble Drive. This application is for the Playground project at the Bliss Carman Middle School. This playground will be used for the school and the community. This grant will be used specifically to purchase a rugged rack (bike rack).

BEAVERBROOK ART GALLERY
This application is for the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s Lord Beaverbrook Day. This is an all day event which offers the community the opportunity to visit the gallery at no cost. There are also workshops, deomonstrations and activities. This grant is from both the Community and the Covey Funds. Funds from the Covey Fund are to be used for musical events at the Lord Beaverbrook Day. Funds from the Community Fund will be used for any other aspects of the event.
