OCTOBER 2009 GRANTS
NEW MARYLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The New Maryland Elementary School will be offering all students in Grades 4 & 5 the opportunity to learn to play concert instruments and participate in a band. Funds will be used for all aspects of the project (ie. instruments, music charts, stands, etc.).
FREDERICTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Library is replacing their existing audio books on cassette with the Playaway Collection. This grant will be used to purchase Playaways for the collection.
CISV FREDERICTON
This grant is for hosting an International Seminar Camp for youth ages 17 – 18. Youth from several countries including Canada will participate in this camp.
JOHN HOWARD SOCIETY OF FREDERICTON
This grant is for a Learning Specialist Coordinator with the Youth Options program. The Learning Specialist works with youth ages 15 – 30 who enter the program to identify possible learning disabilities and potential careers.
MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY OF CANADA, ATLANTIC DIVISION
These funds are for their Funding Assistance Program for people with MS in the Fredericton area. This program will help people with MS in the Fredericton area pay for equipment such as walkers, handrails, and Lifelines. It also assists with the cost for emergency transportation and long distance travel for medical appointments.
FREDERICTON YMCA
This grant is for the Fredericton YMCA’s “we build” capital campaign for their new building on Albert Street.
NB ASSOCIATION FOR COMMUNITY LIVING
Funds will be used to provide Fredericton area families with registration sponsorship for A Maritime Kitchen Party – a national family conference held in Moncton.
COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC
This grant is for the Women’s Health Care program and for the Foot Care program at the Community Health Clinic. The clinic is the primary source of health care for low income women as well as women who have no family doctor. As a result, the clinic is providing PAP tests, pre-natal care, referrals for mammograms, and all aspects of women’s health care. They also provide foot care for individuals who require it. Funds will be used for the purchase of specialized equipment such as a PAP light, speculums, foot care supplies, etc.
HOSPICE FREDERICTON
This grant is to cover the cost of their volunteer training program. The volunteer training consists of 21 hours of training in hospice palliative care. This training is free of charge for volunteers. As well, Hospice Fredericton’s services for clients are provided free of charge. Funds will be used for printing of training manuals, nutrition breaks and honorariums.
OPAL FAMILY SERVICES
This grant is for the purchase of a new washer and dryer at their apartment. The apartment is used for providing their families with respite care. Their families have dependants with intellectual disabilities and many have multi-diagnosis. The dependant is cared for by either a volunteer or paid worker within the apartment while the family receives a break at home.
