York Foundation: This grant is for the purchase of a new mini-bus for the residents of York Manor. This grant is a result of a class action lawsuit involving manufacturers of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer). The settlement stems from price fixing that resulted in Canadian manufacturers of plastic or rubber paying more for EPDM, which is used in automotive weather-stripping and seals; radiator, garden and appliance hose; electrical insulation and roofing membrane. Selected community foundations across Canada, approved by the court, are distributing a total of $190,000 as a result of this settlement. Foundations were chosen to ensure broad geographic representation and each foundation’s allocation is based on population. Grants are to be given to charities that meet various transportation needs in their communities. The Board of the Fredericton Community Foundation determined that the York Foundation’s campaign to purchase a new mini-bus for the residents of York Manor met the required criteria.
