CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

Whether you are a first time visitor to the Fredericton Community Foundation website, or a long time supporter, I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit us on-line. You will find a wealth of information on the site regarding our successful efforts granting to deserving charitable organizations, building our financial resources and providing community leadership.

As Chair of the Board of Directors, I welcome the opportunity to represent such a committed group of directors, staff, and community supporters whose collective goal is to enhance the quality of life of all citizens of the Greater Fredericton Area. We accomplish this goal by offering financial assistance to a broad range of organizations across diverse areas of interest in our community, including: social services, arts and culture, education, health and wellness, heritage, and the environment. If you represent a charitable organization in one of these areas and are seeking additional financial support, I encourage you to contact us to learn more about our granting process.

It is no secret that the global economic challenges of the past two years have had an impact on many charitable organizations and their beneficiaries across the country. In the face of these economic challenges, many community foundations in Canada opted not to grant as a result of their own financial situation. I am pleased to report that the Fredericton Community Foundation granted close to $400,000 to over 100 charitable organizations in the Greater Fredericton Area in the past two years. We were there to support these charitable organizations when they needed it most.

This is not to suggest that the FCF was immune to the impact of the global financial crisis. We did take some hits to the value of our assets. However, as a result of disciplined and balanced financial management, we experienced top quartile returns on our portfolio for 2008 and that trend has continued in 2009. We take very seriously the confidence our donors have placed in us to manage their contributions. If you are considering a gift to the Fredericton Community Foundation, we offer a variety of giving options and fund types that should suit your needs. Together we can create a legacy so that your gift will have a positive impact in our community for many years to come.
