Grant Information



This policy applies to grants made from the Fredericton Community Foundation’s Community Fund.

Preamble
The Fredericton Community Foundation was founded in 1956 for the purpose of receiving donations and to maintain, manage, control and use such donations for charitable and public purposes in the Greater Fredericton Area. Over the past 40+ years donations have been received and endowed with the annual income being used to provide grants in the general areas of Arts & Culture, Education, Health, Physical Activity, Social Services, Heritage and Environment

The Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for deciding what organizations and projects will be supported with the income from the endowment fund. To that end, the Board has established the following Policy and Procedures to assist in this process.

1. Grants are received, evaluated and recommendations made to the Board of Directors twice per year. Grants will be recommended to the Board in May and November.

The schedule will be as follows:

Applications received between October 2nd and April 1st will be reviewed in May.

Applications received between April 2nd and October 1st will be reviewed in November.

Grant requests that may be perceived as urgent in nature may be dealt with by the Board at its discretion.

2. To be eligible for consideration of a grant, the sponsoring organization must be either

(a) a charitable organization registered with CCRA and be able to provide a charitable registration number.
(b) a registered Canadian Amateur Athletic Association.
(c) a municipality or a level of government (federal or provincial or an agency of any level of government).

3. The Grants Committee will not consider grants for individuals.

4. Each year following the preparation of a budget by the Finance Committee, the Board of Directors will allocate an annual grants budget to the Grants Committee.

5. The Community Fund will be utilized to address issues and concerns in the following areas:
- Poverty, abuse, hunger, shelter and unemployment
- Education and awareness projects that promote an improved quality of life
- Coping in the community (isolation, language and cultural barriers)
- Youth violence prevention
- Healthy development of children and families
- Mental health issues within the community
- Protection/preservation of environment, and of our historical and cultural heritage
- Exposure to, understanding and appreciation of arts by children and youth
- Promotion of active participation in the arts
- Young people as stakeholders in our community
- Resource support for improved delivery of services
- Self-help models of community development
- Seed funding for initiatives that promote the active involvement of the general community.

6. In considering applications from groups including sports, choirs, debating teams, etc. an application must identify:
(a) The particular skills that will be delivered through the program.
(b) The specific need for equipment or similar one time cost. The Board will not consider requests for travel expenses to events where the prime purpose is to display skills already achieved.

7. All prospective grant recipients must complete the application and submit the required number of copies along with a copy of their financial statements. To download the application, please see below.

Successful grant applicants must forward to the Board a receipt for the grant amount and an evaluation of the program (project) results.
