December 1, 2016 – Fredericton, New Brunswick – David Wilson has been named the 2017 recipient of the Fredericton Community Foundation’s Philanthropy in Action Award. Mr. Wilson will receive his award at a gala dinner celebration presented by Stewart McKelvey on May 25, 2017 at the Fredericton Inn.
The Philanthropy in Action Award honours members of the Greater Fredericton community who have given of their time, talent and financial resources for the well-being of human kind. This year’s honoree has a long history of contributing to worthy causes in greater Fredericton.
Mr. Wilson volunteers in excess of 300 hours per year for various causes. He has served as a board member and chairman of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, United Way, YMCA of Fredericton, Christ Church Cathedral, Miramichi Salmon Association and the Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation.
Tammy Wood, Executive Director of the Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation, describes the impact that Mr. Wilson has had on their success this way. “During David’s Chairmanship with the Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation he provided leadership in raising over $16 million, directly impacting patient care in just about every corner of our Hospital,” she said.
Mr. Wilson has given of his time to work on many fundraising projects, including the Chalmers CT Scan, “Your New Y” Capital Campaign, the Cathedral Restoration, United Way Annual Campaign, Small Craft Aquatic Centre, the Fredericton Community Pool, and the Miramichi Salmon Association Dinner. Mark Hambrook, President of the Miramichi Salmon Association, notes that “under Mr. Wilson’s leadership and charge, this annual signature event has raised a total of $1.1 million for salmon conservation throughout the Miramichi watershed.”
Mr. Wilson generously supports many charitable causes in the community through donations or sponsorships. A few of these organizations include: Junior Achievement, Theatre New Brunswick, United Way, The Playhouse, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Computers for Education, Feel Good for Chalmers Radiothon, Rotary and their Centennial Lodge.
He has served his community as a City Councillor, and has been recognized for his contributions to our community through the Downtown Fredericton Inc. Mazzuca Award, the Distinguished Citizen Award and the Rotary Club’s Distinguished Paul Harris Fellow.
