Our History

For nearly 70 years, local generosity has helped us build something that lasts. Our story starts in 1956, but it’s still being written.

It All Started with One Visionary (and a Powerful Idea)

The Fredericton Community Foundation was created in 1956 by Alden R. Clark with one powerful idea: that generosity, when invested wisely, can support a community not just for today—but forever.

We began with an endowment model designed to grow over time. And it worked. Thanks to decades of generosity and trust, we’ve grown into a $28,8M foundation that supports local charities, essential programs, and the people who need them most.

Today, we manage a variety of funds: Endowed, draw-down, flow-through, and third party—and continue to provide dependable, long-term support for the greater Fredericton region. The model hasn’t just lasted. It’s proven. And it continues to work, because of our community.

Why It Works, and
Why It Lasts

Community foundations have been making a difference for over a century — in cities and towns across Canada and around the world.

It’s a model rooted in trust, built for long-term impact, and designed to grow with the needs of the people it serves.

By pooling donations and investing them sustainably, we’re able to support local causes not just for today, but for generations to come.

It works because it’s personal, flexible, and community-driven — just like us.
