Community Partnership to Support End-Of-Life Care in Fredericton

GROWING TOGETHER

Hospice Fredericton and the Fredericton Community Foundation partner to expand the Hospice Fredericton Endowment Fund.

Today, Hospice Fredericton announced that its endowment fund will be managed by the Fredericton Community Foundation. The Hospice Fredericton Endowment Fund is used to support Hospice Fredericton in providing end-of-life care in the greater Fredericton region. The endowment fund will be invested to create a reliable stream of income to support the continued growth and sustainability of the services provided by Hospice Fredericton.

“It’s never too soon to plan for the future. Our organization recognizes the value of a strong endowment to sustain our growth, and the Fredericton Community Foundation has the expertise in endowment management to meet our goals. It was just a natural fit.” said Cindy Sheppard, CEO of Hospice Fredericton.

The Fredericton Community Foundation specializes in endowments, and currently manages 115 funds. Hospice Fredericton will benefit from the economies of scale and governance offered by the Fredericton Community Foundation.

“We are excited to play a role in ensuring the longevity of Hospice Fredericton, whose services have a significant impact on our community,” said Calvin Milbury, Executive Director of the Fredericton Community Foundation. “The Foundation will leverage our expertise in investing and endowment management to optimize the endowment fund for Hospice Fredericton.”

The pandemic has emphasized the value of long-term sustainability for charitable organizations. In the 2021 Giving Report prepared by Canada Helps, it indicates that “over the last two years, charities saw a decline in overall giving due to pressures of the pandemic and now this is expected to worsen due to the troubling rise in inflation.” The endowment fund is Hospice Fredericton’s way of ensuring their services and programs are available to those who need end-of-life care, no matter the external challenges.
