Outstanding Community Member Named Recipient of the 2023 Philanthropy in Action Award

A visionary, a leader, and an inspiration to many. These are a few words that are used by the community to describe Elaine Colter and the impact she has had on numerous organizations and lives within Fredericton. For the first time in the history of the Philanthropy in Action Award, the Fredericton Community Foundation will be honouring a solo female recipient.

Elaine has not only supported the community financially, but she is also known to be a hands-on volunteer. From spearheading the door-to-door fundraising campaign for the Kidney Foundation, helping to organize the Diabetes Food and Wine Festival, and playing an instrumental part in the founding of Hospice House; she treats her volunteer positions and projects like a full-time job.

For many years, Elaine has championed over 20 charities in Fredericton and has anonymously supported countless individuals and initiatives. With all the positive impact she has had on the community, Elaine has never asked for anything in return and always remains humble, loyal, and very approachable.

A lifelong resident of Fredericton, Elaine’s kindness, generosity, volunteerism, and leadership in the community makes her a perfect recipient of this award. She goes above and beyond to enhance the lives of all the citizens of Fredericton.

Elaine Colter is truly a philanthropist in action.

The Philanthropy in Action (PIA) Award honours members of the greater Fredericton region who have given of their time, talent, and financial resources for the well-being of the community and surrounding areas. Since 2010 we have given this award to someone who embodies the true meaning of philanthropy. The 2023 Philanthropy in Action Award presented by the Fredericton Community Foundation alongside title sponsor Stewart McKelvey, will be awarded during the evening event on May 24th at the UNB Currie Centre. Tickets on sale soon.

The Fredericton Community Foundation helps caring donors support community causes that enhance lives. As an endowment-based, charitable foundation, gifts are pooled and invested, and the annual earnings are granted back to the community.
