Celebrating Alex Scholten, 2025 YMCA Peace Medallion Recipient

We’re excited to celebrate a wonderful moment for our Vice-Chair, Alex Scholten, who has been awarded the 2025 YMCA Peace Medallion, a well-deserved recognition of his dedication to our community.

First created in Fredericton in 1982, the Peace Medallion honours people who bring peace to life through Participation, Empathy, Advocacy, Community, and Empowerment. This year, the YMCA chose someone who truly lives these values every day.

Alex’s care for our region shows up in so many ways, through his work at Victory Meat Market, his support for Greener Village, his years of coaching youth soccer, and his commitment to helping newcomers thrive through the Business Immigrant Mentorship Program. As a New Maryland Village Councillor, he continues to show up for his community with generosity and heart.

Even the small things speak volumes. Earlier this year, during National Volunteer Week, Alex dropped off snacks for volunteers at the New Brunswick Multicultural Council, a simple gesture that reminded everyone how kindness can spark more kindness. He also actively participates in Kindness Week, delivering delicious treats to charities and local businesses and spreading joy throughout our community year after year.

We’re grateful to the YMCA for recognizing Alex’s work and for bringing our community together around a cause that reaches beyond our region. Guests were invited to support the YMCA of Risaralda in Colombia, helping strengthen youth and community development programs.

Congratulations, Alex! And thank you to the YMCA for celebrating the people who help make our community a kinder, more connected place.
