Emergency Community Support Fund
Round 2 Recipients

The Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) is a $350 million emergency funding program from the Government of Canada. The Fredericton Community Foundation Proudly participated in this national initiative in collaboration with Community Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Red Cross and United Way. During the second round of applications we received 17 applications from 14 different charitable organizations. With $152,740 to grant, we awarded 12 grants to 12 different recipients!

 
 

Ability New Brunswick

Ability NB has experienced a significant increase in individuals requiring rehabilitation counselling causing an increased number of individuals on the wait list. This grant will assist Ability New Brunswick in hiring a part-time Rehabilitation Counsellor to fill that gap and ensure individuals with a mobility disability receive the help they need in a timely manor.

Amount received: $22,700

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fredericton & Oromocto

Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a key service to the youth in their programs. During times like these, it’s more important than ever to have a person you can rely on and connect with. In order to ensure their “Littles” continue to receive the mentorship they deserve, this grant will supplement phone costs for the “Littles” who need it the most. It’s more important than ever to keep in touch with the people who bring joy and warmth into our lives.

Amount received: $5,000

 

East and Central African Association for Indigenous Rights (ECAAIR)

ECAAIR provides essential counselling and education services to New Brunswick immigrant families. This grant will help ensure that these individuals have the supports they need during these difficult times. They are helping their families through recurring traumas brought on by the global pandemic, ensuring their participants have access to the educational resources they need to stay safe, and helping them access basic needs.

Amount received: $14,812

 

Fredericton Playhouse

The Fredericton Playhouse is starting their InterMISSION program and we are so proud to support it! This grant will go towards hosting and supporting artists to develop and hone their craft while their careers have been grounded by COVID-19. This program aims to provide not only financial assistance but also a creative outlet for local performing artists while their careers are on hold. By offering the Playhouse and their extensive staff expertise, the Playhouse is striving to cultivate the optimal environment for artists to focus on the creative process, to assist in the generation of ideas, exploration, and conception or development of new works or processes.

Amount received: $17,200

 

Friends of the Fredericton public library

When Covid-19 arrived in our community in March 2020, the library experienced 107% increase in circulation of our eBook and eAudiobook collections in April as compared to the previous year. There has also been a significant increase in the number of holds placed on items. Currently, there are over 10,000 holds for folks waiting to get their next eBook or eAudiobook title. This grant will enable them to purchase additional eBooks and Audiobooks accessible across the province.

Amount Received: $15,000

 

Jobs unlimited

Jobs Unlimited operates The Deli Connection which used to be able to provide catering services buffet style, however, due to COVID19 this is no longer possible. This grant will support the purchase of take-out containers to provide individually packaged meals for catering orders and school lunch programs. The Deli Connection is just one of Jobs Unlimited’s social enterprises which help to employ their service participants and provide funding for their programs.

Kingsclear first nation

Kingsclear First Nation received this grant to help support their Elders. Through a combination of services, Kingsclear will provide social inclusion programs, food The project shall seek to provide needed support, activity, assistance and advocacy for Elders at Kingsclear First Nation.

Amount Received: $28,000

 

Lakeland Resource Center

To place and appropriate security and alarm system at the Food Bank Service areas as well as alterations to the entrances to create a safe environment for clients/staff. The existing entrances used by persons in need of food, clothing and other essential services needs to be renovated with two doors placed to enhance secure and privatize the areas to create privacy for clients seeking assistance. The areas require enhanced safety measures to completely reduce client interaction and the needed protection for physical distancing between clients and client-staff contact in light of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Amount Received: $9,600

 

Partners for Youth

This grant will support the purchase of new laptops and technology for Partners for Youth Staff to enable them to continue supporting their vulnerable youth throughout the pandemic. Their laptops and computers are not capable of supporting the increased online presence they need to have now and new technology is greatly needed.

Amount Received: $1,000

 

Theatre New Brunswick

This grant will enable Theatre New Brunswick to run the TNB Young Company program online and offer it across the province. This will include connecting emerging theatre artists with TNB educational staff to explore key topics relevant to today’s youth and create a play based on those themes. Additionally, they will consult with teachers to ensure they have the tools and resources they need to enhance their theatre programs during the pandemic.

UNB Community Health clinic

This grant will support a week-end warming centre at the site of the Pheonix Learning Centre to provide much needed daytime shelter from the elements throughout the winter of 2020/2021 to provide a safe and welcoming space for those experiencing homelessness in Fredericton
