Impact Story - Jobs Unlimited

Jobs Unlimited is a non-profit organization providing employment and work experience opportunities to adults with intellectual disabilities in the greater Fredericton area. They were also the recipients of the 2020-21 Impact Grant, in support of their work to create an indoor “zen room” and provide a much-needed update to the outdoor garden at their York Street facility.

The funding they received helped to purchase multiple pieces of accessible equipment including an accessible swing, wheelchair swing, side-by-side tricycle, and outdoor musical instruments. These new features transformed their outdoor garden into a place full of life, colour, and enjoyment for many members of the community. They also developed an indoor zen room for their clients which provides a place for relaxation and stimulation. Similar to a Snoezelen room - the zen room, created with an “under the sea” theme, provides a hammock, aromatherapy, and sound machines, which have been a big hit with everyone who has partaken. The room has also been opened for usage by local schools whose students benefit from the calming environment.

In the past year, the $29,600 in funding from the Fredericton Community Foundation has impacted 200 individuals in the community through Jobs Unlimited and the transformation of their organization’s facility. This work has provided many features and accommodations that weren’t easily accessible for clients, now these features are used to facilitate an improved lifestyle and give back to the community that has supported them.

Thanks to continuous support of many donors, The Fredericton Community Foundation has been able to provide $84,600 in funding through the Impact Grant to five different organizations over the past three years. The Impact Grant is funded through the Community Fund, an endowment that is open to all with no minimum donation requirements. Donations can be given as one-time or on a regular schedule decided by the donor. To learn more about how to donate, visit our website at www.fredfdn.ca/give
