Community Building Through The Arts

The Charlotte Street Arts Centre has been supporting budding artists and the arts community in Fredericton for nearly 20 years. The Fredericton Community Foundation has been a key partner for much of that time, providing a $4,000 Community Grant in 2022 to support the center’s ArtReach programs.

“We are so grateful for the support the Foundation continues to provide,” says Courtney Steeves, executive director. “Without their support, we would not be able to provide the programming we offer every year.”

ArtReach programs offer professionally led, low-cost art programming, including a youth photography workshop series, Girls+ Rock Camp, and Fest Forward, an annual music festival for emerging musicians. All ArtReach programs are inclusive, with a focus on welcoming marginalized populations, including LGBTQ+ individuals and immigrants.

Oscar Tecu, ArtReach manager, moved from Guatemala to Canada as a political refugee when he was a young child. He participated in many Arts Centre programs, which helped him become a musician in the region.

“I’ve seen the value of these programs because I’m a product of all these programs,” he says.
