A visionary, a leader, and an inspiration to many. These are a few words that are used by the community to describe Elaine Colter and the impact she has had on numerous organizations and lives within Fredericton. For the first time in the history of the Philanthropy in Action Award, the Fredericton Community Foundation will be honouring a solo female recipient.
Project 93 from the Fredericton Homeless Shelters was the recipient of a 2021 Community Grant for their work in trying to achieve a 93% sustained housed rate.
The Fredericton Community Foundation announced last night at the For Good, Forever Showcase, that it has selected the 12 Neighbours Community Inc. to receive this year’s Game Changer Grant. The grant is valued at $30,000 and is the largest grant offered by the Foundation.
With the support of a $3,000 Community Grant from the Fredericton Community Foundation, Community Forests International is restoring 3.3 kilometres of trail in the forest, improving access to outdoor activities and providing participants with educational opportunities on the role of the Wabanaki Forest (also known as the Acadian Forest).

The Fredericton Community Foundation announced today that it has provided over $133,000 to assist 30 projects at 29 different charitable organizations to support the immediate needs in the greater Fredericton region.
“I heard about the good things the Fredericton Community Foundation does through my friends Jeff and Richard McGuigan,” Mike says. “Sadly, it was around the time of Jeff’s passing that we began donating.”
This year was our biggest Kindness Week to date, with over 100 businesses and countless individuals in the community taking part and spreading the kindness. Thank you all for demonstrating what it truly means to be #FrederictonKind.
“People often don’t have an understanding of what assistive technology is,” says Courtney Cameron, regional coordinator of Makers Making Change. “Funding is always a challenge. Being able to secure funding for assistive technology at a local level has been very difficult, so we are extremely grateful for this support.”
“Art has always had such a therapeutic component to it,” says Jennifer Krueger, an artist and the founder and executive producer of the Estey Art Initiative. “COVID stressed everybody out in one way or another, and art was missing for the kids.”
We asked youth age 12 and under in the greater Fredericton region to draw “What the holidays mean to you in your community” and submit their artwork for a chance to be featured on our 2021 Holiday Card!
